When applied appropriately, a PGR reduces vertical growth for a period so mowing demand can be easier to manage.
The exact response depends on turf, rate, weather, growth activity and lawn health. It should not be used to disguise poor mowing, irrigation or nutrition, and it is not automatically suitable at every visit.

Useful for fast-growing, frequently mown lawns
PGR is most relevant where healthy turf is actively growing and the owner wants to manage excessive vertical growth.
It may be considered for suitable buffalo, couch, kikuyu or other turf only where the product label permits. A thin, dormant, heat-stressed, diseased or badly damaged lawn may need a different priority.
PGR does not replace weed control
Growth regulation and weed treatment solve different problems.
The visit may use both when compatible and required, but each decision is made independently. Slowing desired turf without addressing invasive weeds would not produce the intended lawn outcome.
Likewise, a lawn full of bare patches needs the underlying density problem considered rather than simply reducing growth.
